Collaborating Community Organizations
Collier County Public Schools Department of Science and Environment
The Science and Environment Department has provided vital curriculum development assistance so we can create the study plan for learning activities and hands-on experiential programs. This information allows us to blend our educational modules into the CCPS ongoing study plans. The Marco Island Preserve and Nature Sanctuary will then become a valuable field trip destination for the thousands of public and private school students of all ages adding a living classroom to their learning experience. Through education we have the power to create a whole generation of new guardians who understand and respect the delicate balance between nature and man.
Rookery Bay National Marine Estuarine Research Reserve
Located at the northern end of the Ten Thousand Islands on the gulf coast of Florida, the Rookery Bay National Marine Estuarine Research Reserve represents one of the few remaining undisturbed mangrove estuaries in North America. As a collaborative partner, the Rookery currently host field trips school age children for 1/2 day educational walking tours and classroom instruction. The Rookery has agreed to guide us in the development of living classroom curriculum and protocols for the walking tours.
